My Initial Thoughts

The Title for this project is 'Brave New World'. It is about exploring new ways in which we can change the face and body using materials and objects not just with typical makeup but prosthetic's and special effects too. The project is focusing on how typical beauty ideals are developing and changing into a new world. This is very exciting as I love the special effects side of makeup and hair!

Quotes from the Brief:

"This project brief is devised to question why it is that fashion stylists, make up artists, artists 

and designers have recently focused so much on new ways of addressing the body through 

cosmetic application. Perhaps it is because the only way to interrogate and subvert the 

stereotyping of accepted norms of beauty is to deconstruct it from within, that is, by adopting 

several visual fashion politics of representation. This has resulted in multiple representations of 

the cosmetic body: re-mapping and re-inventing it in new ways.

"The aim of this brief is to create a new understanding of beauty, one that is not rooted in fashion but derived from the use of small special effects and light prosthetic's."

"You must give careful consideration to your final outcomes, be sure that one of the final designs is appropriate for high fashion catwalk and the second design more extreme and appropriate for an avant-garde fashion editorial campaign. Each design will then translate into a head-shot and mid length shot."

This project is going to be challenging as it is different to anything we've done before but allows us to be more imaginative with our research and final looks. I am going to start by looking at futuristic, fashion editorial, prosthetic's and special effects images to help me put a Moodboard together of my initial ideas for the project and see where my interests take me. 

I looked at different ways in which the face can be changed using different materials, prosthetic limbs, surgery and the fashionable element of special effects.
